Never edit an issued invoice
Once an invoice has gone to a customer, the correct fix is a credit note, not a quiet edit. Editing breaks your audit trail, and if you are GST-registered it misstates a period you may already have filed.
A credit note leaves both documents intact: the original invoice and the correction, each with its own number and date.
Credit notes and GST
If GST was charged on the original invoice, the credit note must reverse the GST proportionally, not just the net value. Otherwise you have refunded the customer but still declared the output tax.
Switch on GST and enter the credited amounts; the tax line reverses with them. Always reference the original invoice number in the reason block so the pair can be matched at audit.
